‘Domestic aesthetic’ for eating disorders unit

Pensher Skytech has supplied its Skytech Lite window unit for the new 2 Warwick Road eating disorder clinic in High Barnet, North London, which required a specialist antiligature solution that maximised natural light ingress and access to entilation.

The clinic is operated by Ellern Mede, a specialist in eating disorder treatment. The new facility was formed after the internal demolition and ‘complete rebuilding’ of a former residential home for learning-disability patients. Architects were Brill & Owen, while Andy Johnson Associates acted as consultants. A high emphasis was put on providing safe and comfortable accommodation for the child and young adult service-users.

Pensher Skytech’s commercial manager, John Richardson, said: “Daylight is proven to increase patient and staff productivity and comfort, and we always aim to design our windows to allow through as much natural light as possible within anti-ligature safety regulations.”

The Skytech Lite window, with its narrow sightlines and ‘unique’ frameless external sliding vent, was also favoured for its visual appearance, which presents ‘a far softer, more domesticated aesthetic’. Its ‘exclusive locking mechanism’ offers residents the freedom to lock the external sliding vent in any position.
