Designing better mental healthcare facilities

Anti-ligature base launched by Gent

Manufacturer of life safety solutions, Gent by Honeywell, says its ‘new and improved’ S-Quad Anti-Ligature (fire detector) Base (ALD302) is designed to provide additional safety within buildings that accommodate individuals considered to be at risk.

The company said: “The re-design is a direct result of customer feedback, and is ideal for environments such as hospitals, prisons, mental healthcare units, and other secure facilities housing and supporting vulnerable people.”

Gent has refined the design of its previous device by incorporating an anti-tamper lip, which it says ensures contraband cannot be stored within it. It also has a built in magnetic switch for loop continuity even when multiple devices are removed. This ensures full loop integrity without the need for a separate T-Breaker – ‘something that will help reduce the overall installation cost’. ‘Easy to install’, the anti-ligature base is certified to 6.4 kg release load, and is ‘easy to reinstate if removed’.

The ALD302 has also been verified by the National Offender Management Service (NOMS).

Simon Foulkes, product marketing manager at Gent, said: “I am confident that the ALD302 will make a valuable contribution to the way the pioneering S-Quad fire detection portfolio can be used within specific environments that accommodate those who are potentially at risk.”
