T8 LED tube ‘the ideal low-energy retrofit’

Following the recent ban on the production of fluorescent tube lamps, global lighting manufacturer, Megaman, has launched a new T8 LED tube lamp range, which it says ‘provides an ideal option for a low-energy retrofit replacement – without the need for any rewiring’.

As of 25 August this year, all fluorescent tube lamps have been banned from sale in the UK, in line with the European Commission’s eco-design and the Restriction of the use of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directives.

Megaman says the new T8 LED tube lamp range offers ‘instant and significant energy savings’, thanks to a high lumen output per watt. It said: “Built to last and easy to retrofit, the tubes are compatible with conventional ballast (magnetic ballast) and mains-powered fixtures, so they can be quickly and easily swapped for fluorescent tubes.”

A smooth appearance and even light distribution are achieved thanks to a wide exit window with several colour temperature options available, while an optional shatterproof PET coating is available to prevent the break-up of the glass tube if damaged.

The T8 Professional range tube lamp is rated Energy Class B. and can deliver efficacies of up to 150 lumens per watt. 9, 16, 22, and 24.5W options are available, each providing an excellent estimated lifespan of up to 30,000 hours. Microwave Sensor T8 tube options will also be available from November, with corridor function for enhanced energy-saving capabilities. For all models, tube sizes are 2 ft, 4 ft, 5 ft and 6 ft.

“The ban on fluorescent tube lamps may seem inconvenient, but LEDs provide a safer alternative, and deliver significant long-term energy and cost savings,” said Micaela Abbot, Sales director at Megaman UK. “The key is to make the switch as easy as possible, which is why we have launched a LED tube lamp which is compatible with all fixture types, available in a number of models, and available at varying price points.”
